It just so happens to be a Thursday when this idea occured to me… but I think it might be good idea to share a list of books and authors that inspired us all over the years.
So I’ll start things off with:
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien (and the Hobbit that led me to LotR).
Magician…[Read more]

Most reviews of Infinity that I read/watch include some mention of “this game is complex to learn.” And in a hobby space that is increasingly focused towards streamlining & ease-of-play that’s kind of a dealbreaker.

With the exception of 1 nationwide chain and 1 RC car shop, all other local hobby shops have disappeared over the past 15-20 years, thanks primarily to the interwebs, so shopping locally isn’t an option.
Ditto for game stores, there are currently 2 in my city, they have very little stock, what stock they do have is the most recent only and…[Read more]

Yeah I’ve read Lord of the rings several times and more recently on audiobook, which I found quite good, particularly for those sections that can be a slog.
a recommended reading section is a decent idea, I’ve come across lists like that in Facebook groups and the like when I used to frequent such hellscapes.
maybe an OTT book club!

Maybe we need a forum of ‘required reading for gamers’… or at the very least recommended reading.

Hah! I’m safe on that one! I’ve read The Hobbit (in German) and I’ve read LotR (in English)
Do I remember anything? Barely. But I did flocking read them! Plus some of the other works via the means of audiobooks

I’m scared to ask, but who hasn’t read Lord of the Rings? (watching the movies does not count)

Count me in the never read HHGTTG camp, movies and tv series only. It’s been on my to-read list for years but haven’t found the time
I Managed to get a whole hour of painting done yesterday! First time this year. The cold weather needs to feck off so I can go to my shed and not freeze!

I see it the other way around: with GeeDubs being the biggest player in town, you get to see the most painted minis, and thus most badly painted miniatures (in fact, Disposable Income Spent On GW seems to often be […]

And as we’ve seen online, lack of painting skill has never stopped anyone buying (and painting) GW.Exactly my point. All you see online and at conventions from infinity are high level, super cool looking minis. I […]

The recent movie was terrible. Every version is slightly different. BBC TV, BBC Radio, Vinyl, Book.
Although Douglas Adams wrote five books in the ‘Hitch Hikers Trilogy’, the first two are his best work (Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy and Restaurant At The End Of The Universe) and they were covered in the BBC TV series.

De Bellis Antiquitatis is a famous old ruleset that Phil Barker wrote to streamline ancients (basically any pre-gunpowder) games that were, according to Wiki, at that point suffering from endless simulationist […]

“painting too overwhelming” is a weird argument when GW releases troop units that have Infinity level of detail on guys you’ll need to paint 50 of weekly. And as we’ve seen online, lack of painting skill has never […]

If you are saying you should spend more to support your local store – I would wholeheartedly agree.
This and most of the time buying locally (and I use this term loosely to include brick and mortar stores with online shops) isn’t that much more expensive than Temu (if you take the time to look around different shops) plus usually the quality is w…[Read more]

@sundancer I wasn’t offend at all – forget about it! I actually found it entertaining – see, you do not need bad dad jokes at all!
But back to your point, so you are saying that buying base-materials from Temu is not a bad thing. So is saving money a bad thing for people in the EU, UK and USA if they buy from Temu? If you are saying you s…[Read more]

No offence meant. Scratch “inhabitants” and set “hobbyists”. 🙂

@sundancer ‘simply because you are one of “four” inhabitants on a small island‘ – that is a low blow. 🙂 There are half a million people on my island, but the hobby scene is small and not popular enough to have large retail outlets with all the hobby supplies one would necessarily want. I get your point though.

Make that two.
I only know the BBC TV series and the newer movie adaption. So technically I never read them. XD
