Infamy! Celts by civilcourage

We start off this week venturing into a bit of Ancient wargaming with Infamy! Infamy! and some excellent-looking Celts by civilcourage. Many of their shelves are covered in grey plastic and so this project has been a great way to focus on "getting stuff done". In this case, we're checking out some excellent Celts who are going to be used for the Too Fat Ladies game.

Infamy Celts #1 by civilcourage

We actually start off here, looking at the big boss lady who makes an appearance as the leader of the pack. I like the big, bright, fiery hair, which is very in keeping with the Celtic vibe. You could imagine her being from the same family tree as Boudicca! I particularly liked the white/cream, which will make her stand out on the tabletop.

Some more of the more recent miniatures added to the army are these Slingers, who once again show off the variety that you can get out of Celtic/Gaelic armies on the tabletop.

Infamy Celts #3 by civilcourage

I was particularly drawn to the trousers and tops that they are wearing, where you can see all of those lovely stripes, marking out the unique nature of the warriors that made up these armies. I think it looks great and even though it will have taken a bit more time, I think the effect sells it. I also really like the painting of the musculature of these warriors, making them look suitably hench!

As you can see, civilcourage has done an excellent job on these miniatures and they are going to be fantastic when they hit the tabletop.

I think the basing also works very well for these warriors, giving the appearance of the rolling hills of western Europe. You could see these warriors charging through the woodlands of Germany or fighting through the lowlands of Britain. Again, great skin painting, especially when it comes to the shading and highlighting. The shield transfers also help complete the look!

Late Romans by dugthefug1644

Moving on a little bit in the timeline of the world, we have some Dark Age Late Romans by dugthefug1644. They had a friend who wanted to get stuck into SAGA but after building the list and building the miniatures, the painting step alluded them. So, dugthefug1644 stepped in and decided to paint up these Late Romans for them so they can play some games!

Late Romans #1 by dugthefug1644

I think it helps that dugthefug1644 is an insanely fast painter who is always able to smash out warbands, armies, characters and more at a rate of knots. What's quite nice is that dugthefug1644 has gone with the flow when his friend wanted more models of a certain type in his force. Some more archers were needed and so dugthefug1644 responded by slotting more in!

This is a great little collaboration between the two and it means that more games are being played! As you can see, with dugthefug1644's help, a rather sizable SAGA force has now been painted up and is ready for some games.

Late Romans #2 by dugthefug1644

In typical dugthefug1644 fashion, there are some very detailed breakdowns about the different elements of these forces and how they came to life. If you'd like to see how the characters were painted and all of the troops, there will be an entry for them over on the project linked above. A great resource for someone potentially planning to wargame during the same era.

As mentioned, this was all in aid of some games being played and we got to see one!

Late Romans #3 by dugthefug1644

In this battle, Vikings clashed with Late Romans and whilst there are still a few learning moments to be had when it comes to the intricacies of the game, both players had fun. There's nothing better than seeing painted miniatures fighting out a fun battle. Even if you don't get the rules right the first time, if you both had fun, who cares?

10mm Fantasy Dwarves by gorram

Last but not least, we have more from gorram, who has been working their way through some 10mm Dwarves. They already have a sizable amount of 10mm Dwarves in the theme of Khaz Modan via Pendraken and Kalistra but with the addition of the new Dwarves from Wargames Atlantic, it was time to tackle the Classic Fantasy Battles range.

10mm Dwarves #1 by gorram

This addition to the existing 10mm Dwarf collection came as part of a bit of hobby destressing. With such an array of 10mm figures available nowadays in different materials, it was neat to see how the kits actually looked and what it took to paint them. gorram has broken down the process as part of their Project, going into the painting and the basing of these figures, showcasing all of the steps.

10mm Dwarves #2 by gorram

This seems like a nifty little experiment which introduced some new Dwarves to the collection. It was also fascinating seeing how the miniatures compared against the existing Dwarves in gorram's collection. Here, you can see them alongside some of the Dwarves from Pendraken and Copplestone Castings.

10mm Dwarves #3 by gorram

I think they work rather well, although the metal offerings do look a bit more refined when compared to the Wargames Atlantic figures. Even with a different look to them, they'll all merge together once the miniatures are banded together on the tabletop. I am hoping we're going to be seeing more Dwarves from this set painted up, including the cavalry and the characters.
