Age Of Sigmar Welcomes Spectral Storms & Big Battletomes This Weekend

Games Workshop continues to build on your Nighthaunt and Stormcast Eternal armies for Age Of Sigmar this weekend with the introduction of new models and more. We start with the important bit as the two new Battletomes land this weekend.
The new books feature some amazing cover art and of course inside you'll find everything you need to play as these sinister ghostly warriors and valiant defenders of the realms. Included within the book you'll also find a focus towards exploring the ongoing narrative of the Mortal Realms too.
This means we're going to be seeing how the war is going overall AND also a more sinister side to the Stormcast Eternals which could be very interesting indeed.
Mighty Spells
We've already seen the Malign Sorceries Set which gives you massive 3D representations of the major spells from the world of Age Of Sigmar but two new sets will also present you with incarnations of the spells specific to both the Nighthaunt and Stormcast Eternals.
Mighty magical scythes, screaming skulls, tornados of hammers and more are coming your way with a new set of different Endless Spells.
Nefarious Nighthaunt
Leading the way in battle next week you'll also be able to get your hands on the Mortarch Of Grief herself, Lady Olynder.
She comes out alongside two smaller units as well with Crawlocke The Jailer and his Chainghasts AND the harrowing Reapers.
Both of these sets continue to develop the awesome narrative and feel behind the Nighthaunt on the tabletop. I could imagine this being a very dynamic looking army on the tabletop when it has been assembled in full. It would look like a full-on tide of the dead!
They are also going to be fun (and easy) to paint. You could have a lot of fun with washes here as we've talked about before and have a very good army finished in no time whatsoever.
Begone Foul Spirits!
As well as these ghosts we have another saviour from the storms above. Here is the Lord Exorcist who might just be the coolest looking Stormcast Eternal of the bunch.
That helmet design is exceptionally epic and, in difference to my normal bugbear about these kinds of models, I quite like his sedate stance. He seems commanding and imperious, staring down the darkness before him.
The souls being sucked up into his staff there add a little more bite to the model too, giving him a sinister and deadly purpose. The open book would be fun to paint as well!

While I am not fond at sculpted effects it does fit those ghosts since you know they are ghosts. I can’t say same about that Sigmarine but then again my general dislike towards them doesn’t help matter so I am really biased.
The little stories — like the disappearing spirit above — in GW minis lately are fantastic and being executed so well.
The only thing I don’t like from the GW article is that the Stormcast spell isn’t called ‘Bustin’ Makes Me Feel Good’
Liking the Nighthaunt minis. The Chainghasts sound nice and like they’ll work well with Spirit Torments as they effectively boost the size of the ST’s aura ability. One thing that confuses me about the Reapers is that they are a min size of ten (as per this box set), yet the Soul Wars box only comes with four. This is especially bizzare as if there had been five, then that would allow those who trade their Stormcast half of SW for their mate’s Nighthaunt half their own SW (which I’m fairly sure most people will do) to be able to… Read more »
I love these new spell minis they’re making 🙂 and the Nighthaunts look really cool drifting around like that 🙂
Mortarch Of Grief seems to divide opinion. I’m on the “not keen” side, but she’s only the second model I have any doubts about in this range. She and the lad with the gallows on his back aside I absolutely love every one.
Stormcast may be better without the bunny ears.

Chainghasts are a miss. Are those nighthaunts new? They look like the previous releases with a head swap. It’s a good concept, but does the whole army need to look like that? Spell effects don’t look like anything I can use in AD&D. Too bad.

I have to disagree with you Ben, not a fan of the Lord Exorcist’s helmet. To me, he looks like a Cyberman.
@dracs – to be fair, there are some similarities between Cybermen and Sigmarines; taking a human and rebuilding them into a superior body, supressing their emotions in the process and having an emotionless face with dark soulless eyes. Might as well take it further.
