Reading … actually rereading Pratchett’s Going Postal , after having watched the movie earlier this week . Also a hobby related book , D-Day to Victory ( Sgt. T. Greenwood ) , about a Brit Churchill tank commander’s day to day life .in France 1944 / Germany 1945 .

Never felt the need to go that intense on my hobby , its supposed to be fun and relaxing , isn’t it ? I never got the memo …..

I like to have kit bashed , one of a kind figures . I get a lot enjoyment out of taking 5 Bolt Action  figures with the same pose and make them  totally different in stance , arms , head and weapons . Luckily the BA plastic is quite soft and cuts easily , and the figure sprues come with a great variety of parts , plus most of the  arms from most of the sets  be swapped around freely , just pay attention to the cuffs . If I was modelling Waterloo , I can see where standard rank & file figures would be the way to go , lucky for me I model WW2

Still working  away on my Orc plane , plus I’ve received a couple of kits in the mail , so its get out the books and start picking through the parts box looking for bits to use on my next vehicle conversion / kit bash . Also got Brit Paras ans Waffen SS to build and paint

Still can’t figure out how to add music links ….but been listening to a lot of Mott the Hoople lately , their 2009 and 2013 reunion shows .

@dawfydd Kickstarter, bane of my wallet’s existence that brings so much joy to my pursuit  of high end minis. I’ve thrown money at some campaigns and seen the shiny stuff come back to me. The Kingdom Death figures have been great and I’m still waiting for the second campaign that’s due in 2020. I’m looking forward to the Signum figures to start shipping soon from their updates. As you mentioned Mierce, I agree it is definitely a good company that I’ve looked at and wondered if I was going to drop cash on. The monsters they make are awesome. As far as getting into large scale figures I would, however, put them lower on the list after Creature Caster.

@a27cromwell definitely keep us posted on your ork-craft project. Since it sounds like you have historicals down I hope panel lining and weathering will be featured.
As far as music links, just take a YouTube URL from the browser and paste it directly into the chat. I had the same problem before I got the memo.

@sundancer there is nothing wrong with your english – it was my fault entirely, sorry. I was trying to get the thread started as soon as I could and simultaneously cook dinner (ended up working through lunch yesterday) so I didn’t really review what I had written prior to posting. As I studied economics at university I guess i have a bad tendency to fall back on uncommon technical wording when discussing anything to do with the manufacturing or supply process without really considering the usage of such language. Apologies I’ll keep a better eye on it in the future 🙂 I have added to the question in the opening post, hopefully it clarifies what I was trying to ask a little more 🙂

Bushfire has been downgraded to ‘advice’ level overnight so now only need to keep one eye on things (the world currently smell like smoked smallgoods, only without the deliciousness 🙂 ) so will be back online later for proper responses etc. In the meantime,

    3. Are bespoke miniatures your thing or do you prefer large quantities of homothetic plastic minis? That is, if you had credit for a big online miniatures store, would you prefer to use it for a few low-quantity run miniatures form a small manufacturer, or a higher number of plastic miniatures from a larger manufacturer? No right or wrong answers, just keen to hear people’s thoughts.

This get’s the best answer ever: It depends.

Let’s say none of the manufactures have behaved like Dicks (Dick is a bad Person, hence capital D) in the past or had work conditions like a sweatshop in the clothing or shoe industry then I would go with the models I like. Is the model of “lower quality” but I love the sculpt? I’ll get that one. Have they similar sculpts of *insert generic troop type* I’ll go with higher quality. Are they for mass army games I’ll go for variation and mix and match. Is it for skirmisher or hero game I take the best looking, fines cast single miniature.

I even have a somewhat current example. I still need a 2nd Troll for my Blood Bowl Goblins and I’d love the classic GW Troll with the big nose but those are hard to come by. And most other Trolls I have found so far are either drop dead ugly (like the current GW BB Troll) or way to expensive since shipping adds 50 – 80% of Costs.

If you will excuse me now, we have our annual Games Day Weekend here in Oldenburg (Oldenburger Spielertage) and I have games to play, tournaments to watch and unhealthy but tasty food to eat. (Yes I’ll take pictures for you lot) If you wan’t to see some really OLD pictures from past Games Day Weekends go here please: KLONK ME I’M A DING (But be prepared for some very old digital fotos)

So, I think the fur on these Wolves is pretty much done. I was debating a light drybrush of the original base colour but not sure. Probably best to go straight to doing the mouths, teeth & claws.

And these are the colourshift paints i mentioned  (from Turbo Dork). looking forward to seeing how they come out…

@sundancer gaming and music mix well. During all that there’ll be a lot of dice rolling and math so numbers will be important. As you dig into music of the past I will pull this Kraftwerk

Now something a little less dated

As time is relative to the observer…

@dawfydd If you did a 50/50 base color and then the barest touch of a second drybrush on the tips that would definitely make them pop. One thing I’m finding true of advice I overheard at a mini painting meetup long long ago was to highlight further than where you think it might go. The 2 foot/2 inch rule holds about like that.

@mage Congrats on having life beyond the hobby. Get back to work and stop showing off. Lol

So these are how my play around with those colourshift paints ended up:

    2018-11-03 17.16.042018-11-03 17.16.162018-11-03 17.16.26

    2018-11-03 17.15.22

Overall I’m quite happy with the results, given they advise using an airbrush and these were done by hand. It’ll be interesting to see how they work on things like powermauls and thunder hammers…

So Ral Partha has bought the assets? There were rumours some years ago that the owner of the IP was giving everything away cheap. And I mean everything. Rights, moulds, masters. The amount of money was ridiculous low. I may have this wrong in my head but it was something of 12.000 Euros.

Oh, nearly midnight. Off to bed!

(For context: the refrain means “brush your teeth, take a leak and off to bed” 😉 )
