World War II French by ewokkebab

We start off this week with an excellent project from ewokkebab who rescued an old Bolt Action project from Vinted of all places and has turned it into a finished army for use in World War II wargaming.

Bolt Action French #1 by ewokkebab

It's awesome to see an army come to life, turning something utterly abandoned into a force that can kick some ass on the tabletop. This turned out to be a full starter army which already had a fair few bits primed and ready for painting. Rather than letting these Dairy Ingesting Capitulation Simians lose out, they are now painted and look awesome.

By his own admission, ewokkebab has mentioned that they meant to take more work-in-progress photographs concerning bringing these French to life. But, the final result looks excellent and it's nice to see the French actually get some World War II love.

Bolt Action French #3 by ewokkebab

I think the uniforms look great and ewokkebab has managed to capture that older feel to the French during World War II. I particularly like those classic helmets and the flashes of bright colour amongst their uniforms, making them feel like they've been dropped into a fight they're not quite well-matched for. It helps make the French feel unique and different from the other forces out there.

As well as plenty of troops, the French army also included some great support weapons. I think there's something to be said about the basing choice from ewokkebab on this project, too. I really like the overgrown woodland look, which, again, feels like it matches up just right with the vibe of the French. An excellent project, saving something that was destined to end up forgotten on a shelf otherwise!

Dark Age Saxons by SirHumphreyRtd

Next up, we're sticking with the Historical but we're going back to the Dark Ages and a growing Saxon army from SirHumphreyRtd. They have been crafting an excellent Dark Age warband of Saxons using miniatures from Victrix that will then be used in the likes of Hail Caesar, SAGA and Midgard.

Saxons #1 by SirHumphreyRtd

I am a sucker for Dark Age armies and the Saxons more than most. This set of miniatures represents the Early Saxons that would have been fighting against those left over in Britain in the wake of the Roman Empire retreating back towards their homeland. I think the schemes look excellent and, once again, the basing really helps to sell the finished article.

Saxons #2 by SirHumphreyRtd

All of the rank and file troops also look great, especially with a decent splash of colour used to make each warrior feel unique with their own personality. Again, the army is helped out by some excellent basing and the use of those Little Big Man shield transfers to make the miniatures pop. A good base can do wonders when it comes to making an army feel complete.

Saxons #3 by SirHumphreyRtd

A glorious-looking force that will be brilliant to see on the tabletop, being used for the likes of Midgard and Hail Caesar, to name just two systems. It will be great to see these warriors going up against more of the armies from SirHumphreyRtd that you'll find in the Project link above.

Yme-Loc Eldar by darkdanegan

Last but not least, we're going to be having a look at some Sci-Fi via darkdanegan, who has been doing some excellent work bringing a new Craftworld of Eldar to the tabletop for use in Warhammer 40,000 Combat Patrol.

Yme-Loc Eldar #1 by darkdanegan

Much like a lot of people (me included), darkdanegan was drawn to the Eldar as their army of choice because they were their first love back in the day for Warhammer 40,000. It also helped that the army is one of the least gribbly in the Warhammer 40,000 range, with most of their miniatures being sleek and no-nonsense.

darkdanegan also wanted to go for a paint scheme that is a little bit different and one of the most striking I think I've seen. This turned into the scheme for Yme-Loc.

Yme-Loc Eldar #2 by darkdanegan

I think the painting of these Eldar is absolutely brilliant. I love the grey armour, which stands in contrast to the orange shoulder pads, chest armour and helmets. Even with such a hefty amount of grey in the mix, I think this works so well and the highlighting done here and there to make the armour pop means this scheme works.

It gets even better when you see the glorious painting that went into the Jetbikes!

Yme-Loc Eldar #3 by darkdanegan

If you want to follow this scheme for yourself, you're in luck as darkdanegan has broken down the process over on their Project. Additionally, this isn't done yet and there is a great character in the works that should look equally stunning. If I didn't already have an extensive Iyanden army, I would be stealing this scheme for myself!
